Sustainability Commitment

For heritage organisations, conservation bodies, government institutions, and businesses with meaningful sustainability commitments, Big Timber offers something mass manufacturers cannot: bespoke furniture, handcrafted from salvaged timber with fully documented provenance.

For organisations that take sustainability seriously, that matters. It means the furniture in your boardroom, your visitor centre, your reception, or your grounds isn't just beautiful it's evidence of your values.

Why Choose Big Timber

For every piece I make I can tell you where the wood came from, which tree, the location and what happened to it. Timber with a story.

That history doesn't disappear when it enters my workshop, it becomes part of the piece.

As an experienced arborist I work with trees that most furniture makers never encounter. I'm on-site when veteran trees come down. I know their provenance, their age, and their story.

Likewise, if you have a tree that needs to come down, don't let it end up as firewood. I can fell it safely and repurpose it into a unique piece for your home, giving your tree a second life and piece you can continue to enjoy.

 Who We Work With

Big Timber is proud to have collaborated with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew one of the world’s leading centres for plant conservation and science. Caring for millions of trees, some of Britains most treasured and over 1,000 years old.

We have also collaborate with the National Trust, Shugborough Estate on their new and first ever Forest Garden, Arcadia. Shugborough Estate is a historic country estate celebrated for its heritage, ancient parkland and commitment to conservation.

We welcome commissions from organisations including:

  • Heritage and conservation bodies (National Trust, English Heritage, Wildlife Trusts, RSPB)
  • Government departments and public sector organisations with sustainability procurement obligations
  • Hospitality and tourism businesses with ESG commitments hotels, visitor centres, rural retreats
  • Architecture and interior design practices specifying sustainable materials
  • Businesses seeking meaningful, story-led sustainability initiatives beyond carbon offsetting
  • Estate owners and land managers with timber from their own property
Ideas for Your Organisation

Because every piece carries the story of a specific tree, Big Timber furniture works particularly well where provenance and sustainability matter to your visitors, clients, or staff.

  • Boardroom and conference tables for sustainability-led businesses
  • Reception and entrance pieces that communicate organisational values on arrival
  • Benches, seating, and outdoor furniture for estate grounds and public spaces

If you’re considering a larger project or a long-term supply relationship, I’m happy to discuss how that might work.

Start a Conversation

Every institutional commission begins the same way, with a conversation. Tell me about your organisation, your sustainability goals, and what you're hoping to create. I'll come back to you with ideas, timber options, and a clear picture of what's possible.

There's no minimum order and no standard brief.
Just genuinely bespoke furniture, made with purpose, and built to last.
