Our Story
I'm John, owner and creator of Big Timber. With over 20 years' experience as an arborist across the UK and Europe I've developed a deep understanding of trees and their inherent value.
Through my work I kept seeing the same thing happen, amazing veteran trees having their incredible timber chipped or used for firewood. Big Timber started as a response to that. I began salvaging timber and turning it into furniture. Trees that have stood for decades or even centuries being given a second life as unique, lasting pieces.
The result is furniture that can’t be replicated. No two are the same. The grain patterns, colours and natural character of aged timber ensure that every piece is truly unique. Shaped by nature and crafted by hand, each creation carries its own distinctive story and character.
My work includes pieces in The Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew, Shugborough Hall Estate and many interesting private commissions.
